Ovarian Cystectomy Specialists at CIGC

With more than 25,000 complex GYN procedures to their credit, the minimally invasive surgical specialists at The Center for Innovative GYN Care are the surgeons of choice for countless women in need of an ovarian cystectomy. For this delicate cyst-removal procedure, CIGC’s experts use an advanced laparoscopic technique that enables them to:

  • Remove cysts while preserving healthy ovaries.
  • Take out cancerous cysts without rupturing the mass and spilling malignant cells into the pelvis.
  • Remove any endometriosis that may be discovered during the same procedure.
  • Send you home the same day with minimal pain, just three tiny scars and an expected recovery of about a week.

Unlike OBGYNs, CIGC’s specialists are dedicated solely to GYN surgery. This exclusive focus gives them superior diagnostic and treatment skills. And their advanced training and experience in minimally invasive procedures provides you with the best surgical outcomes, including lower complication rates than open abdominal cystectomies. From your initial consultation to the post-surgical follow-up, you will be treated you with dignity, respect and attention to your well-being.

What Is an Ovarian Cyst?

There are several different kinds of ovarian cysts, which are growths on or in the ovary. An ovarian cyst may be fluid-filled, solid or mixed.

Most ovarian cysts are benign, or harmless, and resolve on their own. Some cysts — particularly large, suspicious or persistent cysts—may require treatment, which often is best accomplished with an ovarian cystectomy, or cyst removal surgery. Women who are in their mid-40s or older are at greater risk for malignant cysts than are younger women.

Treatment Options

After evaluating the results of ultrasound imaging and assessing any symptoms you may have, experienced GYN specialists consider your age, fertility goals, the size of the cyst, the possibility of malignancy and other factors to determine if you are a candidate for minimally invasive cystectomy, which is often — but not always — the best treatment for certain ovarian cysts.

Some OBGYNs and GYN specialists routinely follow a “watch and wait” approach to ovarian cyst treatment. We believe this can pose unnecessary risk, as can medical management with birth control or other hormonal therapy. Each patient’s situation is different, however, and our treatment recommendations reflect a personalized approach to care that respects your individual circumstances.

Surgical Centers

CIGC performs GYN procedures in state-of-the-art ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs). You can have peace of mind knowing you are having your ovarian cystectomy in a facility ideally suited to safeguarding against COVID-19. The ASCs are independent from a hospital, smaller and easier to keep clean and sanitized; patients with COVID-19 are not treated here; and fewer people are present in the facility at any given time.

CIGC is located in the Washington, DC, and New York City metro areas, and we welcome patients from around the world. Our specialists offer evaluations onsite or via telemedicine appointments.
