The Fibroids Project is hosting Dr. Natalya Danilyants in a phone event on the “watch & wait method” for fibroids, Wednesday, January 27th from 7 PM to 8 PM EST.
Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD, co-founder of The Center for Innovative GYN Care (CIGC) has seen too many patients who have been told to watch and wait when with comes to their fibroids, only to have them grow very large or cause severe symptoms. Many women wait until their symptoms are very bad or do not realize there is a problem until they try to get pregnant.
This is in part due to the idea of heavy bleeding or pelvic pain that coincides with a monthly cycle considered by many women and doctors as being normal. Many doctors will hesitate to treat fibroids because they are untrained in minimally invasive procedures, and can only offer open myomectomy or hysterectomy procedures, which can have long, painful recoveries. As fibroids can be unpredictable in how fast or how large they will grow, the general practice is to leave them alone unless they become problematic. But the scale of what problematic means is subjective to both patient and physician.
Dr. Danilyants will discuss the risks of delaying treatment, including permanent damage to the uterus, fibroid growth during pregnancy, anemia due to extended or heavy bleeding and the minimally invasive options available to treat women that can have them back on their feet in 2 weeks or less.
Two minimally invasive fibroid removal techniques developed by the specialists at CIGC: LAAM, an innovative minimally invasive uterine sparing fibroid removal technique, and DualPortGYN, a technique used to perform minimally invasive hysterectomies, resection of pelvic adhesions, ovarian cystectomies, removal of pelvic masses and endometriosis excision using only 2 tiny incisions.
The surgeons at CIGC developed these procedures to help women have a better recovery from surgery for fibroids of all sizes and all locations. The minimally invasive GYN specialists work with women to understand their concerns so that the best procedure can be performed for her individual needs, and future plans.
