The short answer is yes — it is safe to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic as long as you are taking recommended safety precautions.
For patients who don’t live near a CIGC location, travel becomes necessary. But in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, travel also comes with a lot of hesitance and uncertainty. It is true that travel can increase your risk of exposure to COVID-19, so unnecessary travel should be avoided at this time. However, if you are experiencing severe symptoms like heavy bleeding or pelvic pain, you should not delay your treatment.
A delay in care for GYN conditions can cause already severe symptoms to worsen, often leading to more serious — and sometimes life-threatening — conditions. For women with hopes of conceiving a baby in the future, untreated GYN conditions can cause infertility. Surgical procedures for these conditions can’t wait. They’re essential.
CIGC’s travel program aims to make traveling for surgery as seamless as possible. Our patient relations coordinators will walk you through every step of the process and provide you with all the information you’ll need for before and after your procedure. During this time, we continue to offer office visits at our locations along with telemedicine appointments to our patients to ensure their safety and wellness. For more information, please visit our COVID-19 information page.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers guidance on traveling during the pandemic and factors you should consider before deciding to travel. For essential travel, like traveling for a surgical procedure, remember to check if any travel restrictions are implemented at your destination, take the recommended safety precautions (wearing a mask and physical distancing) and monitor your health leading up to your trip.
Don’t let COVID-19 delay your essential care.
