Can you get COVID-19 twice?

It is possible to be infected with COVID-19 twice, but it’s rare. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cases of reinfection have been reported but more research needs to be done to understand how and why it happens.

Reinfection is common with many different viruses, so some cases of multiple COVID-19 infections in the same person are expected. It’s still widely unknown how severe cases of reinfection might be or who may be at higher risk for reinfection.

Preventing reinfection of COVID-19 follows the same public health guidance for avoiding initial infection. Even if you’ve already recovered from the virus, it’s still important to continue wearing a mask in public places, diligently washing and sanitizing your hands, avoiding crowds and confined indoor spaces with others and trying to put at least 6 feet of distance between you and others outside your immediate household.

When you come in for a surgical procedure with CIGC, you can rest assured that we’ve taken the necessary steps to reduce potential exposure to COVID-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we’ve implemented:

We will continue to update these measures as we receive more guidance from the CDC, but our goal since the beginning remains the same: we want our patients to feel safe and well cared for on their journey to better gynecological health.
