“I Don’t Even Feel Like I Had Surgery” DualPortGYN Hysterectomy

Lisa V Circle“I don’t even feel like I had surgery,” said Lisa V. “A co-worker of mine had a hysterectomy and she was amazed at my recovery. Hers was open, she was out for 6 weeks and it was painful. Its all about the technique. I had my gall bladder out 2 years ago, and even though that was also a laparoscopic procedure, I had to take the pain medication.”

The Center for Innovative GYN Care Difference

Many of the procedures performed at The Center for Innovative GYN Care by the minimally invasive GYN specialists Dr. Paul MacKoul, MD and Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD use DualPortGYN, a technique that uses only two (2) tiny incisions made through the mid-line of the abdomen, not through the muscle. A DualPortGYN hysterectomy makes it possible for patients to heal faster, and they require very little pain medication after the first few days of surgery. Many hysterectomy patients feel better by the next day and start to resume normal activity within the first week.

Kidney Damage and Other Lesser Known Risks Of Fibroids

Lisa had a large fibroid, that was starting to interfere with her life.

“I didn’t have any pain. My fibroid was growing on the outside of the uterus, but I was getting up all the time to urinate. I feel like it was pressing on my bladder.”

The Watch and Wait Method for Fibroids Doesn’t Work

“I was diagnosed in 2008, and the fibroid was 6-8 centimeters, but it grew. I noticed as I was lying down there was a lump, and I knew I needed to get this thing out of me. Before the surgery, it was 11 centimeters. The normal uterus should weigh about 70 grams. My uterus was 800 grams. I looked like I was 3 months pregnant. I was so bloated. I had gotten down to a certain weight, but I could not lose this 5 lbs. My pants weren’t fitting. I wanted this done now because I’m getting married in October. I was looking at pictures from Vegas last year, and I thought my stomach looked so big. It turns out, I was bloated from the fibroid.”

Strong Word of Mouth Drives Patients to CIGC Minimally Invasive GYN Specialists

“I had heard the ad on WTOP. When I started talking about the upcoming surgery with my co-worker, she told me that she had surgery with Dr. MacKoul, and another co-worker had a laparoscopic hysterectomy with Dr. MacKoul and another co-worker’s daughter was scheduled to have a consultation. I was feeling pretty confident about it after that. There are about a thousand people where I work, and it was impressive how many had said they had surgery with Dr. MacKoul.”

Life After A Minimally Invasive DualPortGYN Hysterectomy

Lisa had a DualPortGYN hysterectomy,

“The first night, I took a Percoset to help me sleep. I remember from my gallbladder surgery you don’t want to wait for the pain to start. But the next morning, I woke up feeling so good I went out and sat on the couch. My mom was worried that something was wrong. After that, I only took Motrin for a few days.”

“I had surgery on a Tuesday, and I was back to work the following Monday. I just cannot get over how good I feel. It took me a little time to start feeling energetic, but I felt no pain. When the glue came off after about 2 weeks I had to look hard to see the scar.”

Controlling menopause symptoms can be important for women who have a complete hysterectomy. If the ovaries are left behind, estrogen will continue to be produced and women should not experience symptoms of menopause. But if they are removed, some women find that estrogen replacement therapy helps with the transition.

“Night sweats are crazy. My hair, my pajamas, the sheets were soaked. Even as it kept happening to me, it was such a weird feeling. Dr. MacKoul prescribed 1 mg of estrogen and I’ve had nothing since. I was pre-menopausal before the surgery.”

Lisa’s Experience At CIGC

“From the time I had my consult all the way through my surgery, it was such a great experience. The staff, the doctors everyone was so professional. I got immediate response from the doctors whenever I had a question.”

When women compare CIGC procedures to other more invasive options, they are stunned to see the difference.

“I feel bad for all these women who go through horrible surgeries unnecessarily. I remember taking things to a co-worker who had an open hysterectomy who had a 6 week recovery. And that was just a few years ago. There is so much misinformation out there about fibroids after menopause, which after reading your site, I discovered was wrong.
