Tips for Mothers on How to Recover After a GYN Surgery

Tips for Mothers Banner

Any gynecological (GYN) procedure is a major surgery that causes great concern for mothers with younger children. With summer coming to an end, kids are getting ready to head back to school, and unfortunately, some mothers cannot afford to be immobilized for 4-6 weeks after a procedure.

We understand the hesitancy with scheduling your GYN surgery. However, at the Center for Innovative GYN Care (CIGC), our minimally invasive procedures are fast, effective, and don’t require lengthy recovery times compared to traditional procedures. We can help you recover quickly and smoothly after GYN surgery so you can get back to feeling better and doing what’s most important, being a mom.

Tips for Mothers Recovering from a GYN Surgery

The key to recovery is practicing overall good health. Here are a few tips that will help you speed up recovery.

Eat a Well-Balanced Diet

Diet is an essential factor in overall health and wellness. Research¹ has found that “the nutritional status of a patient provides the foundation for recovery after surgery, and opportunities to optimize outcomes exist from the first patient assessment to the early days after surgery.” By drinking enough fluid and eating a balanced diet, you can promote faster healing.

If you are the chef in your household, you may be worried about what your family will eat while you are in recovery. A few days before your surgery, it may be best to plan ahead, get meal ideas ready and possibly meal prep so that you can rest assured your little ones are getting the proper nutrition while you recover after your procedure.

Get Moving — Only When You Can

Bed rest is not always the solution to healing. We encourage patients to stay active when they can and when they feel up to it. Simple activities, such as walking, are highly encouraged after any kind of GYN surgery. Moving around will help strengthen the pelvic muscles, reduce the risk of blood clot, relieve gas pain, and help with bowel movements.

Your child can also tag along with such activities, such as riding their bike while you are walking. This not only helps you get one step closer to healing but also allows your child to get the daily physical activity they need.

Rest

Complete recovery takes time, so you must allow your body to heal, and with that, you must be patient. We understand how frustrating it might be as a mother to be immobilized and unable to give your child the attention they need.

For the first few days after surgery, we recommend setting up a childcare plan that will ensure your child is getting the care they need. Coordinate with friends and family to help out in shifts ahead of time so that you can get the rest you need.

Say Yes to Minimally Invasive, Fast Recovery GYN Surgery

At CIGC, we offer groundbreaking minimally invasive GYN surgery that will allow you to bounce back to being an active mom in no time. Our DualPortGYN procedures are among the safest and most effective minimally invasive GYN surgeries available worldwide. The DualPortGYN procedure is only 30 minutes to an hour-long, only requires two incisions, zero days spent at the hospital and recovery time is roughly a week. With this procedure, mothers can expect to pick up right where they left off.

The Laparoscopically Assisted Abdominal Myomectomy (LAAM) technique is another uniquely powerful procedure that can remove uterine fibroids of almost any size, at all locations of the uterus. LAAM is minimally invasive, allowing patients to leave the surgery center the same day of the operation, and provides for a recovery time of two weeks on average. Research conducted on the LAAM technique found that most women resumed normal activity within two weeks of the procedure.
