Staying active
May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month-For CIGC patients, staying active after surgery is important.

GYN conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, and undiagnosed pelvic pain can keep women from enjoying their lives, including enjoying activities that they love in order to stay healthy. May is National Physical Fitness & Sports month. Finding activity that you love is essential to getting and staying healthy.  Staying active can mean all the difference to maintaining great health as we age.

For many women, pain from GYN conditions can limit activity. Abnormal bleeding can also be a deterrent for making plans or being away from home for too long. Treating these conditions can mean a new lease on life, especially if the treatment not only eliminates the problem, but can do so with a quick recovery.

Part of the reason the surgeons at The Center for Innovative GYN Care, Dr. Paul MacKoul and Dr. Natalya Danilyants developed the DualPortGYN and LAAM procedures was to help women return to their lives faster, with less pain. Seeing their patients regain parts of their lives that they thought were lost forever is one of the most rewarding parts of performing minimally invasive GYN procedures.

“That’s really the core value of what DualPortGYN and LAAM are about,” said Dr. MacKoul. “The doctors of our practice are continually finding new and better ways to improve surgical outcomes.”

“When we see the patient after surgery who is very happy, and they’re back to their lives, and their lives are improved, this is what makes us happy,” said Dr. Danilyants. “It’s why we do it.”

Getting and Staying Active After GYN Surgery: Patient Testimonials

brenda on elliptical stay active
Brenda reclaimed her life, and returned to the walks she loved with her husband after her hysterectomy to remove fibroids using DualPortGYN.

Brenda:

“One of the problems was my husband and I like to go on walks,” Brenda, a hysterectomy patient with CIGC. “It was just uncomfortable.”

“She came to us for a second opinion, and found out that a minimally invasive approach is actually possible,” said Dr. Danilyants. “Brenda, like many women who have large fibroids, hear from other doctors that they can only have open surgery. That isn’t correct.”

“Now I don’t have that pain any longer, and it’s a different world for me… I have so much more energy. I’ve lost weight and I’ve made a whole lifestyle change. You don’t have to be the person who gets the full incision. There are other options out there, so do your research.”

Heidi:

Heidi and dogs stay active
A few of days after a hysterectomy with DualPortGYN surgery, Heidi returned to walking her dogs and felt like she could do sit-ups.

“I just was so happy!” said Heidi, a hysterectomy patient with CIGC. “I just couldn’t believe that I found a better way to have a hysterectomy.”

Heidi met Dr. MacKoul after doing a lot of research. Prior to coming to CIGC, several doctors told Heidi she had to have robotic surgery with a power morcellator. DualPortGYN was the alternative she had been looking for.

“A couple days after the surgery I felt like I could do 30 sit-ups, if I wanted to. I didn’t have any restrictions on what I could do. I was out walking the dog. People were saying didn’t you just have surgery? and I said ‘Yeah, but I feel great.'”

Beth and Thunder stay active
Beth hadn’t been able to ride Thunder for 3 years. She’s back riding after her DualPortGYN hysterectomy.

Beth:

“I’ve had my horse, going on 12 years now,” said Beth, hysterectomy patient with CIGC. “His name is Thunder. Because of being sick, and not being able to ride, I haven’t ridden him for the last 2 years. I have a very long history with endometriosis.

“I felt back to myself almost immediately versus the other surgeries where I had multiple incisions.

“Dr. MacKoul gave me my life back. The first time I got back on Thunder in 3 years since having my hysterectomy…felt like riding a bike. Now I have that back.”

We encourage all of our patients to find ways to return to those physical activities they love. You can book a consultation with Dr. Danilyants or Dr. MacKoul online or call 888-787-4379.
