She Didn’t Need a Hysterectomy to Treat Adenomyosis & Endometriosis: Tinishia’s Journey

Treat fibroids, endometriosis, and adenomyosis without hysterectomy

Tinishia had hoped to work with a fertility specialist—so when she was told that her only option for treating heavy bleeding and severe pelvic pain caused by fibroids, adenomyosis and endometriosis was a hysterectomy, she knew she needed to explore other possibilities.

That search led her to Dr. Paul MacKoul and the team of GYN surgical hyper-specialists at the Center for Innovative GYN Care (CIGC). After a thorough evaluation, she learned that her particular case didn’t require a hysterectomy.

Instead, Tinishia underwent a single, minimally invasive surgery lasting under two hours at CIGC’s New Jersey surgical center. Through just two small incisions (one 1.5cm inside the belly button, and one 1-inch at the bikini line), she had:

• A LAAM (Laparoscopic-Assisted Abdominal Myomectomy) to remove fibroids

Retroperitoneal excision to completely remove endometriosis that may have been missed by other providers

Focal resection of adenomyosis, a highly specialized procedure for this painful common disease available only at CIGC

Thanks to these techniques, Tinishia avoided a hysterectomy, as well as the large scars, extra cost and longer recovery times associated with open or robotic surgery. She was able to go home the same day, cared for by a dedicated pre- and post-op team, after a surgery that was covered through her insurance. With lower infection risk and better outcomes than hospital-based surgery, her experience reflects what personalized GYN care should look like.
