Endometriosis Pain Is Real — And Often Ignored

Endometriosis is a complex, often misunderstood condition that affects millions of women — many of whom go undiagnosed for years.

The hallmark symptom is severe pelvic pain, especially around the menstrual cycle. But this pain is frequently mistaken for typical cramping or dismissed entirely. Over time, the condition can worsen, causing inflammation, scarring, adhesions, and even damage to surrounding organs like the bladder, bowel, and reproductive system.

Endometriosis isn’t just “bad periods.” It’s a chronic, estrogen-fueled disease that can deeply affect daily life, fertility, and emotional wellbeing. Lesions can grow deep into tissue and even impact nerves. In some cases, endometriosis has been found outside the pelvic cavity — in the abdomen, lungs, and even the brain.

Early diagnosis is critical. But because the disease can’t reliably be seen on standard imaging like ultrasounds or MRIs, it often requires the skill of a specialist who knows what to look for — and how to treat it.

WHAT MAKES ENDOMETRIOSIS SO DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE

• It mimics symptoms of other conditions

• Imaging tests often miss it

• General OBGYNs may not be trained to identify or surgically treat it

• Many women normalize their pain due to years of being dismissed

THE GOLD-STANDARD TREATMENT: EXPERT SURGICAL EXCISION

The gold standard for treatment is excision surgery, where endometriosis lesions are carefully and thoroughly removed from all areas of the pelvis (and beyond, if necessary). This requires not just surgical precision but deep knowledge of how the disease behaves. Incomplete or superficial removal often leads to recurrence or worsening symptoms.

A fellowship trained surgical specialist is the best choice to diagnose and treat abnormal vaginal bleeding definitively. Book a consultation with one of The Center for Innovative GYN Care hyper-specialists to help get you back to your life safer and faster.

At the Center for Innovative GYN Care (CIGC), this is our specialty.

We’ve spent more than 20 years focused solely on the surgical treatment of complex GYN conditions — not delivering babies or handling general OBGYN care. Our patients come to us for expert care with endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, and other advanced conditions. We offer consultations and perform these surgeries multiple times a week at our accredited surgical centers in Maryland and New Jersey, and see patients in our offices from Virginia, Maryland, and around the U.S. — many of whom travel from across the country or abroad to receive our care.

Our DualPortGYN® technique, developed by our hyper-specialist founders, uses just two tiny incisions (5mm each), avoids muscle tissue, and allows for a same-day return home with faster healing and less pain. Most patients are back to work within one week. These procedures are designed to be fertility-sparing when applicable, and are covered by most insurance plans. Most importantly, our outcomes rival (or exceed) those of expensive cash-upfront clinics.
