Patient Spotlight: Brenda, Life After GYN Surgery

Brenda was proud of her perfect attendance record at work. CIGC minimally invasive surgery got her back to herself quickly.

Women who suffer from GYN conditions often just want to return to a normal life. Pain or discomfort, heavy bleeding, exhaustion from anemia, or other symptoms can limit activity and often isolate women from others. And for many, they hear that the treatment may be worse than the condition. With minimally invasive procedures like DualPortGYN and LAAM (Laparoscopic assisted abdominal myomectomy), the treatment is finally something women are excited about.

When Brenda met Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD, she found out that minimally invasive surgery is possible for women with large fibroids. She was told by other doctors that because of the size of the fibroid, she would have to have open surgery. The recovery for open procedures can last 6-8 weeks.

“I had perfect attendance for 18 years, and it was a sense of pride and I just wanted to get back to work as soon as I could, and get back into my regular routine,” said Brenda, hysterectomy patient at CIGC. “I didn’t like the idea of a full large incision and the recovery time.”

The surgeons at The Center for Innovative GYN Care have the experience and skills to perform hysterectomies or myomectomies laparoscopically, no matter the size of the fibroid or uterus, or the extent of endometriosis. Because the surgeries are performed as minimally invasive procedures in an outpatient setting, patients return home the same day and are usually back to themselves in days rather than weeks.

“(Brenda) came to us for a second opinion, and she found out that a minimally invasive approach is actually possible,” said Dr. Danilyants. “She’s like many other women who have large fibroids, and who are hearing from other doctors that they can only have open surgery. And in fact, it’s not correct.”

CIGC PROCEDURES PROVIDE THE BEST PATIENT OUTCOME

DUALPORTGYN

DUALPORTGYN: The Center for Innovative GYN Care uses DualPortGYN to perform hysterectomies, endometriosis resection and other GYN procedures. Compared to standard laparoscopic, robotic or open procedures, DualPortGYN provides the best overall patient experience and results.

LAAM

LAAM procedures use 1 5MM incision at the belly button, and 1 1.5 inch incision at the bikini line. Side by side, LAAM provides the best results to patients with a faster recovery and less pain.

AN ACTIVE LIFE AFTER GYN SURGERY

“Now I don’t have that pain any longer and it’s a different world for me. I just feel so much better. I have so much more energy and I’ve lost weight.”

Staying healthy and active after GYN surgery is an important part of the healing process. In honor of Women’s Health Week, we want to encourage women to take an active role in managing their health, and to seek a second opinion for GYN surgery.

The ability to heal faster and with less pain can get women back to activities they love, including walking, yoga, swimming, or whatever keeps your blood moving. The CIGC surgeons use techniques that return women to their lives faster, and often better than they were before.

“Do your research,” said Brenda. “Because there are choices. And there are excellent surgeons that do this on a daily basis.”
