“Four years after fibroid surgery, I’m still happy!” Gwen T

Gwen t“You would never know I had fibroid surgery,” said Gwen T, fibroids patient at The Center for Innovative GYN Care. “You can’t even see where the incisions were. Even speaking about it four years later, it makes me happy.”

In 2011, Gwen consulted Dr. Paul MacKoul about the pelvic pain that coincided with her monthly cycle. Describing her symptoms, Dr. MacKoul realized that she most likely had fibroids pressing on a nerve. An ultrasound confirmed it.

“Every month I would suffer with pain around my menstrual cycle, but it wasn’t in my pelvis. I was getting pain in my hip and my back. There were times I couldn’t get out of bed. At the time I didn’t know what it was, but it was affecting my lifestyle, crippling me.”

Gwen had a fibroid the size of an orange pressing a nerve into her pelvic bone. She had gone for years struggling as the pain increased.

Dr. MacKoul performed a minimally invasive hysterectomy using DualPortGYN, an advanced technique that can treat all GYN conditions using just two 5MM incisions, cosmetically placed. One at the belly button and another at the bikini line. After healing, the scars are practically invisible.

“I had a friend who recommended Dr. MacKoul to me. He was so reassuring and straight to the point. But you can tell he cares. The day after surgery, he called me. It really felt like he cared, and patients need that right after surgery.”

Scar and Pain Free

“I have no scars. Some women are scared about big scars, but patients considering surgery need to know that I had no drainage, and went home with 2 small bandages.  I was back to work in four days. I work as an office manager in a doctor’s office, and it’s light duty, and low stress, so I had no problem returning to work earlier than planned. I’m looking forward to wearing a bikini some day!”

Four years later, Gwen is still raving about her experience with the surgery and the staff.

“Dr. MacKoul is the greatest. He was very precise and I have been recommending him to other women going through similar problems. The staff, the nurses were so supportive and made me feel like they would take care of me. I can’t recommend him highly enough.”

Life After Fibroid Surgery Is Better Than Ever

Like many women who find they have more energy and drive to pursue activities that were unthinkable while in constant pain, after recovering from surgery, Gwen went on to further her education.

“Since my surgery, I was able to get my Masters of Arts Degree and am a licensed Clinical Christian Counselor, with 4 board certifications. I’m pursuing a Ph.D in 2016.”
