Pain Management

Ranging from distracting to debilitating, pain is frequently a hallmark of endometriosis, adenomyosis, uterine fibroids, vulvar disorders, painful bladder syndrome, musculoskeletal pain, pelvic floor prolapse and other GYN disorders.

Our non-surgical pain management program is administered by a physician committed to non-opioid pharmacological (medication) therapy. The physician will guide you in augmenting your medication treatment with other therapies proven to help manage pain. These treatments include acupuncture, pelvic floor physical therapy, exercise therapy with an at-home component, nutrition therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. The goal is to help you gain long-term control over pain for improved quality of life.

Acupuncture

This bedrock of traditional Eastern medicine has proven to be a safe and effective method of reducing pain from a number of conditions, including pelvic pain related to endometriosisIt can also alleviate anxiety.

Acupuncture centers around the idea that when energy, called Qi (pronounced chee), becomes imbalanced or blocked in our bodies, pain, stress and illness can result. To restore the proper flow of Qi, practitioners typically insert thin needles in parts of the body responsible for the blockage. This relatively painless procedure may be accompanied by other elements of Chinese medicine, including acupressure massage, breathing instruction, meditation and herbal and nutritional therapy.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

When weakening occurs in the muscles and connective tissue that serve as the foundation for reproductive and digestive organs, a host of complications can resulturinary incontinence and frequency, pelvic organ prolapse, painful intercourse, vaginismus (vaginal muscle spasms), and pain in the abdomen, lower back and hips.

Pelvic floor therapy, conducted in a private room with a specialized physical therapist, is often the first line of treatment for the conditions noted above. It incorporates such techniques as soft tissue stretching, relaxation exercises, biofeedback and home exercise.

Physical Training

For many chronic gynecological conditions, exercise has been known to reduce symptoms dramatically by releasing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant markers within the body. This reaction in turn fights the inflammatory response that the condition initially triggeredRegular exercise also releases endorphins, which are naturally occurring pain and stress relievers.

The personal trainers at our Wellness Center will develop a customized exercise plan tailored to your condition and fitness goals. Through private training sessions, you will have the opportunity to conduct your fitness sessions in our fully equipped gym and via virtual sessions.

Nutritional Counseling

Nutrition is an integral part of living an overall healthy lifestyle. Our dieticians will evaluate a detailed record of your food intake, medical records, lab results and any relevant lifestyle information in order to create a personalized plan that can help you reach realistic health goals.

You will enjoy continuous guidance and encouragement as you make healthy food choices and lifestyles changes. Some of these changes may involve sleep schedules, fitness and stress management. For your convenienceyou may participate in virtual sessions.

Psychotherapy

This treatment taps into the mind-body connection as a conduit to physically and emotionally healing from gynecological issues. Endometriosis, for example, is often linked with anxiety and depression due to its uncertain prognosis and threat to fertility.

Through cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy and/or hypnosis, patients will learn strategies to manage and adapt to their gynecological condition and create realistic goals and expectations in order to lead a healthier, balanced life. Private sessions will be offered virtually.
