Travel to CIGC for Safe Surgery During the COVID-19 Pandemic

When patients travel to CIGC from around the world for surgery with a GYN specialist, they can rest assured that they will be well taken care of and protected. We follow all recommendations from the CDC and will continue to update our safety procedures as we receive additional guidance. Our safety precautions include:

  • Screening for symptoms among patients and staff
  • Limiting the number of people allowed in our center at one time
  • Putting rigorous disinfection protocols in place
  • Encouraging social distancing and limited contact with surfaces
  • Requiring all staff, patients and visitors to wear masks at all times

This is a safe place to have surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic. All CIGC procedures are performed at ambulatory surgery centers (ASC), not hospitals. With the emerging backlog of delayed surgeries at hospitals around the United States as well as globally, CIGC patients can get scheduled at an ASC in just a few weeks.

The Destination for Life-Changing Laparoscopic GYN Techniques

The Center for Innovative GYN Care® (CIGC®) surgical specialists are world-renowned experts in advanced laparoscopic techniques to treat complex GYN conditions. Women travel from around the world for advanced minimally invasive GYN surgery performed by CIGC physicians. The state-of-the-art DualPortGYN® and LAAM® techniques were developed to treat complex GYN conditions, that would normally be performed as open or robotic procedures.

We have performed thousands of laparoscopic procedures for fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic masses, pelvic pain, and other complex GYN conditions. Women choose CIGC because GYN surgery is the only medicine we practice. We have made a commitment to performing advanced laparoscopic techniques for hysterectomy, fibroid removal (myomectomy), ovarian cyst removal (cystectomy), and other gynecological procedures. Our specialists are board-certified and fellowship-trained in minimally invasive surgery. We do not use open or robotic procedures, so we can achieve our goals of treating your condition with as little pain as possible.

If you are traveling to CIGC from out of town, our Patient Relations Coordinators (PRCs) and Surgical Schedulers will walk you through each step to ensure you are prepared for your arrival. Whether you are coming from across the country or from the other side of the globe, we will do everything we can to assist you in preparing for your procedure. Costs for travel are not part of the cost for surgery. Patients and their traveling companions are responsible for all travel costs.

Traveling for Minimally Invasive GYN Surgery: What You Need to Know

We want to make traveling from long distances for GYN surgery as seamless as possible.

Initial Consultation

For patients intending to travel over long distances for surgery, the initial conversation may be conducted via phone. This will be determined on a patient-by-patient basis by the CIGC surgeons.

Documentation about your condition, such as MRIs or ultrasounds, needs to be submitted to our surgeons via fax or email to ascertain if we are the appropriate provider for your surgical care. All documentation needs to be no older than 90 days. Once it is established that CIGC is the right place for the patient, our laparoscopic specialists will discuss the best surgical options during a phone conversation.

I did a lot of research. At home, facing six weeks of recovery was not an option for me. One week of travel, surgery and recovery was something I could do. My total time out of the office included two plus days of traveling. I was back to the office after about a week. It was such a happy ending for me.

I love my OBGYN, but she is not a surgeon. This was my first time to go 'under the knife' so a procedure with the least amount of incisions and the least amount of downtime was very important to me. In comparison to all other options available I found that LAAM was exactly what I was looking for. So I was willing to travel to get the best surgery possible for my health.

My only options were open surgery [in L.A.] or flying to Washington, D.C. It was a no-brainer. After reading every person’s comments, blogs, the procedures, & looking up reviews on both doctors, I felt comfortable enough to say ‘I’m doing it.’ Both the doctor in L.A. and Dr. MacKoul said that my uterus was bigger than my head.

I was anemic. I had a heavy flow, and it was embarrassing… I was surprised at the speediness of the recovery. The staff was great. Everyone that I interacted with was nice and understanding and helped me with what I needed.
