Cervical Dysplasia Specialists at CIGC

For many of us, getting a Pap test is just something we check off our list and don’t give another thought. So it can be unsettling when the results come back as cervical dysplasia—abnormal or precancerous cells on the surface of the cervix that may be a high-risk form of HPV or early-stage cervical cancer.

For more than two decades, the cervical dysplasia specialists at The Center for Innovative GYN Care have helped women navigate the uncertainty of cervical dysplasia and have provided prompt, personalized treatment in a compassionate manner.

Cervical dysplasia may resolve on its own or require one of several minor procedures that can provide both a diagnosis and a cure. When cells are cancerous and have spread beyond the cervix, hysterectomy may be the best cure. CIGC’s specialists have advanced training in minimally invasive surgery and developed two groundbreaking surgical techniques that use just a few small incisions for minimal pain and scarring and the fastest recovery of any method of surgery. Cervical dysplasia patients can also have peace of mind knowing they are in the hands of a board-certified gynecological oncologist.

What Is Cervical Dysplasia?

Cervical dysplasia, typically detected through Pap tests, refers to abnormal or precancerous cells on the outside of the cervixIf untreated, these cells over time can turn cancerous and grow deeper into the cervix and surrounding tissue. It can, however, take years for untreated cervical dysplasia to reach this stage, and many cases that are caught early and watched resolve on their own.

Women in their mid-40s are most likely to see abnormal cells progress to cancer.

Cervical dysplasia often is caused by the common sexually transmitted infection HPV, or human papillomavirusThere are many strains of HPV, and more than 10 are believed to put women at high risk for cervical cancer. However, having HPV or cervical dysplasia does not always mean cervical cancer will develop: The immune system eliminates about three-quarters of HPV infections.

Because many women do not experience any symptoms during earlystage cervical cancer, routine Pap tests are essential for detection.

Cervical Dysplasia Treatment Options

Treatments for cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer depend on the extent of the condition. They range from “watch and wait” and minor medical procedures to hysterectomy for advanced stages. Alternative health care therapies such as acupuncture and psychotherapy can help women manage any anxiety or stress they may experience during the treatment process.

Advanced Techniques

Unlike the standard GYN surgical techniques, CIGC’s DualPortGYN® and LAAM® procedures allow patients to return home the same day. These advanced techniques also provide shorter recovery times and better outcomes. We care for each patient as a true individual through a detailed and personalized approach that puts your needs as a patient first.

Compared to open, robotic-assisted and standard laparoscopic techniques, CIGC surgical specialists use fewer and smaller incisions to minimize scarring and speed up recovery, resulting in lower complication rates. We get our patients back to their daily lives in one to two weeks on average — free from their GYN symptoms and worries.

Our Surgical and Wellness Centers

CIGC surgeries are performed at ambulatory surgery centers that are not attached to a hospital, meaning procedures are done on an outpatient basis and patients can go home the same day. These benefits are especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With convenient locations near major cities like Washington, D.C., and New York City, each center is fully outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed with friendly, compassionate professionals. We follow CDC guidelines to ensure the enhanced cleanliness and safety of each center. We also offer telemedicine consultations in addition to in-person appointments to discuss treatment options.

The CIGC Wellness Center, located at CIGC’s flagship location in Rockville, Maryland, offers nonsurgical, alternative treatments for the management of GYN conditions such as fibroids, endometriosisinterstitial cystitis and pelvic pain.
